When we talk about sexuality in youth, we are talking about sexual development, sexual behavior and sexual curiosity. In fact, in our society sexuality in youth is quite a hot topic because different cultural and societal norms come into play. However, usually it is seen that adults do not want to talk about this issue and as result sexuality in youth is often ignored as if it does not exist. |
This prompts many young people to actually pretend that sexuality does not exist immaterial of their sexual orientation.It has been noticed that since this topic is such a taboo in nearly all societies across the world, youth do not have access to proper educational material pertaining to sexuality. This, in turn, often misleads them as they get wrong information and ideas.
According to most youth, sexuality means sexual orientation. However, this is just half the truth. Sexuality also encompasses desires, feelings, values, behaviors, relationships, reproduction and eroticism besides sexual orientation. Also, it does not mean that a person has to experience and express everything related to sexuality.
In order society, youth are influenced by various factors, which, in turn, influence sexuality. Some of these factors are religious beliefs, spiritualism, culture, legal norms, economic status, social norms, psychology, politics and even ethics.
Youth express their sexuality through their relationships and sexual activities. It is not necessary for youth to conform to the expectations put by society, family, community and culture. However, one thing is for sure, as youth are maturing, many of them will keep changing their sexuality.
